South Georgia wins Border Wars, 21-3

VALDOSTA " The South Georgia team won the Georgia-Florida Border Wars All-Star Football Game, 21-3, Saturday afternoon at Lowndes High's Martin Stadium.
South Georgia took advantage of three North Florida turnovers, converting them into three touchdowns, and its dominant defense kept North Florida out of the end zone.
“It was a lot of fun,” said South Georgia head coach Tony Long, an assistant coach at Berrien . “We jumped on them early ... I thought they did a real good job.”
All three touchdowns were scored by Valdosta-area players. Keith Christopher of Brooks County scored the first touchdown on a 10-yard run, Armad Turner of Cook scored on a 9-yard run and Lance Davis of Lanier County caught a 1-yard touchdown pass.
The South Georgia defense was absolutely dominant. North Florida had minus-46 yards rushing (including five bad snaps that accounted for 44 of those lost yards), and turned the ball over four times.
Rain fell for much of the game, which hurt the offenses. Both Long and North Florida head coach Craig Howard favor the spread offense, but the rain and the wet footballs made passing difficult.
The first big play of the game came when Christopher recovered a fumble at the North Florida 47. South Georgia then drove 47 yards in six plays for the game's first score. Quarterback Malcolm Dixon of Tift County had a pair of 16-yard completions on the drive, to Lowndes ' Khary Franklin and Fitzgerald's R.J. Davis, which helped move the ball to the North Florida 10. On the next play, Christopher took the handoff, ran behind the left side of the offensive line and crossed the goal line for the touchdown. Tyler Dismuke of Colquitt County kicked the extra point, giving South Georgia a 7-0 lead.
Four minutes later, South Georgia fell on a loose ball at the North Florida 11. Two plays later, Turner got the ball on a toss sweep out of the power I, and outran the defense to the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown run, making it 14-0.
With just under five minutes left in the first half, Valdosta defensive tackle Davion Baynard fell on a loose ball at the North Florida 4. Three plays later, on third-and-goal from the 1, Dixon faked a handoff, and found Davis wide open in the end zone for the score, making it 21-0.
A 71-yard pass from North Florida quarterback Chuck Looney of North Marion to South Florida commitment Jamaal Montague of Columbia, down to the 9-yard line, led to a 28-yard field goal by Buchholz's Brad Phillips, making it 21-3 at halftime.
The defenses took over in the second half, and kept the offenses from scoring any points.
Christopher was chosen South Georgia's Offensive Player of the Game. The Brooks County standout rushed for a team-leading 45 yards on 11 carries, and scored a touchdown. He also recovered a fumble on defense.
The award for South Georgia's Defensive Player of the Game went to the entire defense. Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson was the team's defensive coordinator, and his unit dominated.
Montague was North Florida's Offensive Player of the Game, while Williston safety Isaac Floyd was his team's Defensive Player of the Game.
Dixon completed 7 of 16 passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.
Lowndes had eight players competing in the game: running backs Robert Anderson and Franklin, defensive end Riyadh Moore, offensive linemen Justin Browning, Layne Grant, Michael Miller and Cale O'Neal and long snapper Jackson Dalton. Baynard and offensive linemen Brandon Freeman and Jordan Jenkins represented Valdosta. The Christopher brothers, Keith and Kendrick, linebacker Rodney Thomas and defensive lineman Dontae West represented Brooks County . Wide receivers Asa Adkins, Kirby Riley and Trey Harris and offensive linemen Dustin Vickers and Eric Exum represented Berrien . Turner and defensive backs Waylon Chester and Ladale Abernathy represented Cook .
Turner rushed for 34 yards on 11 carries, and scored a touchdown. Anderson gained 13 yards on six carries, Davis had eight yards on three carries, and caught a touchdown pass, and Harris gained four yards on one carry. Franklin ran for seven yards on three carries, and was South Georgia's leading receiver, with two catches for 19 yards. Kendrick Christopher picked off a pass, while his brother recovered a fumble.
The teams were comprised of senior high school football players from southern Georgia and northern Florida.
